| "In 1940 two Ansons of
Forest Hill/Wagga RAAF flying training school got locked together whilst
on a formation flight - forming a 'pig a back'. After all other crew members
had bailed out the trainee pilot, LAC Puller I/C, in the upper aircraft
landed both Ansons in a field near the Riverina town of Holbrook. ADR."
The following pictures come
from my Grandfather's effects & document a fairly extraodinary case
of locked planes. I'm amazed that the pilot managed to get both of these
planes down in the condition he did; I wouldn't have thought that the pilot
of the top aircraft would have been able to land both. LAC Puller can be
seen standing behind the engine in the second picture down in the right
hand column. This is how Grandpa captioned the photos: |
