Paymasters
Although technically the paymasters belonged to the corps of naval administrative officials, they were to all intents and purposes classed as officers probably because of the sea-going nature of their particular field. They were dressed very much in the manner of the line officer with the exception of the silver coloured insignia and the shoulder boards. These were of a specific official pattern made of flat silver tresse 2.6cm wide. The two outer strips had black stripes and the inner strip one of red, the whole on an underlay of blue.
